After series of tremors, SDMC gets cracking, issues notices to 30 to building owners

The SDMC while intensifying its action has issued 30 more notices to residential group housing societies, educational institutions, and schools and asking them to submit a structure audit report within 30 days to ensure seismic stability for the buildings, it said.

“The building owners are responding to the notices and 6 owners have already started the process of engaging structural consultant and consulting the engineers of SDMC. Thus so far SDMC identified 103 such buildings and issued notices to them

In addition to this, the SDMC has been conducting survey to identify high rise buildings and structures under its jurisdiction to examine their seismic stability and urging RWAs and Housing Societies to approach SDMC for the proper consultation from experts and engineers,” said the agency.

Cheif Engineer Building Department said the list of empanelled structural engineers is available on SDMC websitehttps://mcdonline.nic.in/eodb. SDMC has also empanelled 7 more structural engineers for consultation work. Apart this premier engineering institutes like IIT Delhi, DTU, NCCBM & other institution recognized by AICTE can be approached by public for the structural audit of their buildings.

The SDMC has also identified 27 municipal building for structural audit and started engaging structural consultant for retrofitting work and services to ensure structural safety of these buildings. The inspection work is being carried out at SDMC Primary school Keshopur, Dabri Community Centre, Zonal office Building in Lajpat Nagar, M& CW, Jangpura and SDMC Pry School Old Sagarpur.

To ascertain Structural Stability of these municipal buildings, structural consultants and engineers are ensuring that the premises are safe and have no risk and finding critical areas for immediate repair and also suggesting appropriate repairs and retrofitting measures required for the buildings.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation is taking the action in accordance with the instructions given by the Delhi High Court in view of recent tremors in the city, it said.
