Dug-up roads in some streets of Abul Fazal Enclave and slow work in laying sewer have turned out to be a major hardship for residents of J and other blocks.

A resident of J block in Abul Fazal Enclave where work is going on to lay the sewer said when work for laying sewer started residents were happy but the inordinate delay in covering the dug-up road has become a big headache with elderly confined to their houses and incidents of people falling while walking on dug-up roads have surfaced.

A child suffered fractures to his leg a few days ago after falling on this dug-up road, he said, adding that work should be finished on priority basis.

Another resident in another block said though the dug-up road in his lane has been covered the road is still uneven and walking for women, elderly and children is difficult. If you lose balance chances are you might hurt your leg or fall and several cases have surfaced, he said.

Though residents claimed that work in J block lane started four weeks ago, a contractor seen on the spot monitoring work said it started on November 15.

“We are working to finish the work as soon as possible as you can see that efforts are being made to make other dug-up road even so that residents’ hardship is over. Due to construction work ban as air pollution had increased work was stopped for days,” he said.

Residents said they only want work to be finished as soon as possible so that at least vehicles can come in and in case of emergency they are able to rush their loved ones to hospitals. The problem is that many roads have been dug at a time with incomplete work, said a resident of Charminar mosque lane at 4 number.
