Okhla-based scribe recovers after getting plasma, declared negative, dies of cardiac arrest
The death of Okhla-based Urdu journalist Dr Abdul Qadir Shams Qasmi due to coronavirus has left the journalist circle in Delhi, including Okhla, shocked. A condolence meeting was held today after maghrib prayer in Batla House where a few of his friends, including journalists, recalled his contributions, said Islamic Studies Professor Waris Mazhari.
It was only a few days ago when a freelance journalist had posted on the social media about deteriorating condition of Dr Abdul Qadir Shams Qasmi, a senior journalist of Roznama Rashtriya Sahara.

“Just spoke with family of senior journalist Dr Abdul Qadir Shams Qasmi. For last two weeks he has been admitted to different hospitals after complaining of breathing problem. Now in the ICU of Jamia Hamdard’s Majidia Hospital, his condition is critical. Plasma is urgently needed,” wrote Manzar Imam on his timeline a few days ago.
Later on Imam wrote: “After getting plasma, he was declared negative a few days ago and his health showed good improvement. However, today he died of cardiac arrest at Majidia Hospital of Jamia Hamdard where he was admitted for last two weeks. His body has been taken to his native place in Duba village of Araria where his namaz-e-janaza will be offered tomorrow.”
Words spread fast in the locality with many journalists and friends deeply worried. The Urdu journalist, who was keeping unwell for days, was admitted to Majidia Hospital where died of coronavirus, according to a Siasat report.
It is understood that after undergoing plasma therapy following which his condition improved, he succumbed on Tuesday at around 1 o’clock.
He has left behind wife, a son and three daughters.
A Darul Uloom Deoband passed out, Dr Abdul Qadir Shams Qasmi did his PhD from Jamia Millia Islamia under the guidance of Professor Akhtarul Wasey.
The senior journalist was born in Kishanganj.
