The SDMC said it took strict action against illegal dairy mafia, impounded 211 stray cattle and demolished all temporary sheds & sealed the premises.

The civic agency said it carried out the operation with the help of the police force. “During the joint action, the syndicate operating illegal dairies hid their cattle tethered with short ropes in neck-high sewage water of drain.   During the raids, 137 cattle were rounded up on 22nd April, 2022 and 46 cattle were rounded up on April 27th, 2022.

“Initiating another round of joint action undertaken on May 5,2022, the SDMC have rounded up 28 stray cattle in Kotla Mubarakpur area. These cattle were found hidden in most pathetic condition over a distance of 100 meters in the dirty water of covered Pilanji drain.    Sordid state of affairs is that the dairy owners had tied the animals up to their necks in dirty water in a very inhumane way with short ropes.”

Animals rescued by the SDMC have been kept in the corporation’s enclosure at Malviya Nagar, it said.

“In a brazen attempt to recover the impounded cattle, the illegal dairy mafia attacked the watchman of the cattle pond and locked him in a room on the intervening night of May 5 and 6. In the attack by the illegal dairy mafia, the SDMC watchman sustained multiple injuries. The attackers also robbed off the cash and mobile phone belonging to him.  They broke the lock of the gate of the cattle pond and looted the cattle which were impounded from Kotla Mubarakpur,” it said.

The SDMC said it has lodged an FIR at Malviya Nagar police station in this regard. Initiating penal action against the assailants running illegal dairy business, police have arrested a few persons.

“It would be important to mention that the civic body is committed to strict compliance of orders of the Delhi High Court, hence, it will not allow illegal dairy mafia to flourish in its jurisdiction,” it said.
