To check the Covid-19 spread in Delhi, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has decided to impose a weekend curfew in the city, reported the HT, adding that no non-essential movement will be allowed during the weekend curfew.
Delhi metro and buses will now allow 100 per cent seat occupancy to avoid crowding at bus stops and stations.
The decision came after a meeting of the DDMA, which was chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.
The development came days after city witnessed a massive surge in Covid-19 infections from the past few days.
Delhi reported 4,099 new Covid-19 cases while the positivity rate jumped to 6.46 per cent, the city government’s health bulletin showed on Monday.
“Cases of Omicron variant have been rapidly rising. Delhi has reported around 11,000 positive cases in the past 8-10 days, of which around 350 patients are in hospital, only 124 patients need oxygen & 7 are on a ventilator,” said Sisodia.
“I request people to not go out during the weekends, unless it is an emergency,” Sisodia said.
“We saw in some cases that because the seating capacity in buses was curtailed, long lines and crowd were seen at bus stops. These places were at a risk of becoming super-spreaders. We have decided that buses and metros will now run at full capacity, but no one will be allowed in without masks. This is being done to ensure there is no crowding at stations and bus stops,” he added.
