Cases declining, we will monitor situation for 4 days before reviewing curbs: Jain
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Sunday gave detailed information about corona cases in the State. He stated that corona cases in Delhi have decreased over the last three days. The weekend curfew is proving to be beneficial, as fewer and fewer people are venturing outside, limiting the spread of corona, he said.
Delhi on Sunday registered 18,286 Covid-19 cases, with 27.87 per cent positivty rate and 28 deaths.
“The number of cases is decreasing, but the government is still trying to implement all the best practises. Those who are unvaccinated are at risk of contracting Corona more than the rest. Delhi is in good shape at large, and the government is prepared to deal with even the most serious of situations,” he said.
He urged the people to wear masks at all times and follow all the Covid protocols and social distance.
Providing details on the Covid situation, Jain said the cases in Delhi have been declining for the past three days.
“On the January 14, Delhi recorded approximately 24,383 positive cases, while on January 15, Delhi recorded 20,178 new cases, and today, Delhi is expected to record 17,000 positive cases. Weekend curfews have played a significant role in this decline. This trend indicates that the number of cases in Delhi is decreasing, but the government is still keeping a close eye on the Covid cases, and it will take some time to understand the trend,” he said.
The Health Minister said most of those affected by corona who are admitted in the hospital are those who are either unvaccinated or are comorbid i.e. they have some other than corona.
The Delhi government is prepared to arrange a total of 37 thousand beds in.
“At the moment, 15,000 beds are operational. We can double the number of beds overnight if necessary, but because the number of hospitalised patients is currently so low, the need to increase the number of beds doesn’t seem to arise soon. The government, on the other hand, is fully prepared to deal with the most dire of situations. In Delhi, the hospitalisation rate is currently very low. In Delhi’s hospitals, 13,000 beds remain currently vacant. Patients who are hospitalised due to coronavirus are either unvaccinated or have comorbidities. The Arvind Kejriwal government has taken the most stringent measures in the country, recognising the dangers of the new variant. Steps have been taken in the public interest, from weekend curfew to closure of educational institutions, so that people can protect their health and save lives,” he said.
The Health Minister thanked doctors and front-line workers for completing one year of the vaccination drive.
“In Delhi, 100 per cent of eligible people have received their first dose of vaccination, and 80 per cent of people have received their second dose of vaccination,” he said.
“People who are eligible for a booster dose should get vaccinated as soon as possible. I would like to thank all of the frontline workers and all of the doctors for reaching this milestone,” he said, urging people to get their second dose of vaccination as soon as possible.
The Health Minister urged people to follow the corona regulations and to take all necessary precautions. He urged people to wear masks for safety and to maintain social distance when entering public places. He assured the people of the state through the press that there is no lockdown in Delhi and that migrant workers should not be worried.
