Know which institutes to remain closed till Sunday as Yamuna swells
With Yamuna crossing the danger mark, non-essential Government offices, schools, colleges are to remain closed in Delhi till Sunday. This direction was issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority.
Private establishments across the city have been advised to work from home. The decision was made at the DDMA meeting held at the LG Secretariat here.
“All schools, colleges and universities are being closed till Sunday,” Kejriwal told reporters after the meeting.
“All government offices associated with non-essential services will be closed till Sunday. Private offices will be issued an advisory to follow work from home practice,” he said.
Officials said commercial establishments around Kashmere Gate will be asked to close till Sunday. Buses coming to ISBT will stop at Singhu Border, and DTC buses will ferry people from there, they said.
Kejriwal also warned of chances of water shortage.
“There is going to be an acute shortage of water since three treatment plants are closed. There could be a shortage of 25 per cent water so ration will have to be done,” he said.
The Yamuna flowed at 208.53 metres at 10 am on Thursday, breaking the 45-year-old record, officials said.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) also issued a circular directing closure of all government and private schools in low lying areas.
“As waters of river Yamuna crossed the danger mark, the heads of all the Government and Private Schools in affected areas are hereby ordered to take adequate measures to ensure safety of the students. All schools in low lying areas where there is an imminent danger of flooding must be closed with immediate effect without waiting for any further orders,” the circular said.
The DoE has also directed the zonal and district authorities to remain in touch with the schools and provide support.
“Areas like East, North East, North, South East and Central districts have been affected and all schools in these districts must be closed with immediate effect without waiting for any further orders,” the circular added.
