Javed Malik, who is owner of Zakir Nagar-based Malik electronics, said in November (first week) when he visited the graveyard after marghrib for tadfeen of his father, Haji Sabir Malik, he saw that there was no light and no benches for elderly to sit and no shade.

“I thought it is time to put some money in the graveyard to provide basic but important facilities so that people don’t face hardship during tadfeen. Later on people told me that there is no covered space and during monsoon residents have to cover body with plastic,” he said.

Several important works have been done by him like shade, benches and tiles. He started by putting water piao inside the graveyard for the visitors.

Residents have welcomed his move. Khidmat NGO head Faiz Ilahi, who too has placed several piao in the locality, said it is highly appreciable of Javed Malik and his family to come forward and invest in infrastructural work in Batla House graveyard.

Javed Malik is a role model for many in the locality and many people should come forward to contribute in their capacity to bring changes in the locality and this is how things can change, he said, adding that rather than complaining it is time to work.
