Batla House likely to say goodbye to street vendors, this area might be no hawker zone

Freeing Batla House road from street vendors has been talk of the locality for years with many strongly backing the idea of decongesting Jamia Nagar to end not only traffic snarls but making life of residents better. And from time to time efforts have been made to get the issue addressed but unsuccessfully with the vendors after being removed coming back again.

In the latest move, Khateeb Timami, president of Welfare Association, told the OT that a positive development has taken place in a meeting held in Jamia Nagar Police Station on Saturday.

“On complaint of local residents, Okhla Market Welfare Association held a meeting with a top police official of Jamia Nagar Police Station to discuss encroachment from Batla House and Gafoor Nagar. Hawkers of Gafoor Nagar were also invited to take part in the meeting as they have been encroaching 8 feet of the road making it narrow and creating traffic snarl and difficulties for daily commuters,” said Khateeb.

Others who participated in the meeting included Md Asim, Md Waseem Khan, Jabiullah Ahmed, Advocate Amil Khan and Shakil Chaudhary, he said, adding that RWA president Tahir Siafi was also present in the meeting.
