Azhar Md Khan, 79, was a resident of Zakir Nagar West and he died on May 3.
“Many people are wrongly saying that he died of Covid. I think there was confusion. He was bed ridden for years and died a natural death and he was not a Covid patient,” said Khan’s son-in-law Fahad Jamil.
He told the OT over phone that his wife Bushra Khanum (a journalist) wrote on her Facebook timeline about her father’s death on May 3, mentioning that he never tested Covid positive.
Khan, who was born in Khurja, Bulandshahar, was laid to rest in Batla House graveyard after Isha on the same day, he said.
Khan has left behind six daughters, one son and wife.

“On April 28, I started showing Covid symptoms which was later confirmed by a test. Last two weeks have been one of the toughest days of my life while I was fighting Covid, my father breathed his last. I couldn’t say even my last goodbyes to him.
“My father loved me more than anything he ever loved in life. My pro-people journalism and social concern in my work is his legacy. He trained me to speak in front of large gatherings when I was barely 5-6 years old, and he would always be my script writer.
“My on-screen confidence, vocabulary, articulation, knowledge of Urdu, everything that I do today is him not me. He was my life-coach. I am because he was !
“There can be no greater cruelty than not being able to see my father one last time. I will have to live with this scare all of life.”
