Asma Khatoon, who had grabbed media limelight last year after she was part of a peaceful sit-in at Shaheen Bagh against the CAA and NRC along with 82-year-old Bilquis and 75-year-old Sarwari, is unwell, according to her grandson Anisur Rahman.

“She is unwell and has stopped eating food for the last two days, please pray for her quick recovery,” wrote Rahman on his timeline a few days ago. Also, he shared a photo of her undergoing treatment.

Asma Khatoon, 94, is unwell, he said. Asma Khatoon was at the forefront of the women-led vigil against the citizenship regime at Shaheen Bagh.

Her story was covered by national and international media with one of her colleagues, 82-year-old Bilquis, was honoured by world leading US-based Time magazine. She was among TIME’s most influential people of 2020.

Many media house named the dadis at the protest site as “dabang dadi” (fearless grandmother).

Asma Khatoon is originally from Sitamarhi in Bihar and her husband Maulana Abdul Hasan died nine years ago, according to a media report. She had come to Delhi to visit her granddaughter in December but become part of the peaceful sit-in, said the report.

Asma Khatoon has 8 children, including 4 sons and 4 daughters with two sons residing in Delhi and her one grandson also resides in Jamia Nagar with his family.
