AMU mourns demise of Prof Asif Ali

Prof Asif Ali, a senior faculty member of the Department of Biochemistry, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) passed away. He was 64.

“Our hearts ache after learning of Prof Asif’s demise and the whole university community and his colleagues at JNMC are saddened. He was an amazing human being and teacher who mentored students to give their best. I extend heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

Prof M U Rabbani (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) pointed out: “Prof Asif touched so many lives, helped so many students and made them walk on the right path, the path of wisdom. We hardly thought that he would pass away like this”.

“Prof Asif always made the classroom brighter with his knowledge and wisdom. That will definitely be gravely missed”, said Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Principal, JNMC).

Prof Shagufta Moin (Chairperson, Department of Biochemistry, JNMC) recalled: “Prof Asif was an inspiration to his colleagues for his focus, discipline and dedication. He was an exemplary human being who was always easily accessible to everyone”.

In his 40 years of research and 32 years of teaching experience; Prof Asif taught the MBBS, BDS, Medical Lab Technology, Pharmacy, MD, M.Phil and PhD students and served as the Chairman, Department of Biochemistry for two terms.

He published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and the ‘Role of modified proteins and nucleic acids in various diseases’ was his thrust area.
