Rain drenches Okhla; waterlogging, traffic snarls reported
Many Okhlaiites woke up to see a rainy day. It was second day on trot that raind drenched several parts of Delhi as incessant spell of light to moderate rain lashed the city on Thursday.
Though the rain brought relief with temperature coming down, several parts of the city, including Okhla witnessed waterlogging and affecting traffic movement on key roads across the locality.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a “yellow alert”, cautioning people about moderate rain at most places in the city. Rain has come before the withdrawal of monsoon from the National Capital Region.
The city recorded a minimum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, seven notches below normal.
The air quality index settled at 66 (satisfactory category) at 4 pm, improving from 109 on Wednesday.
The Delhi Traffic Police tweeted: “Traffic is affected in the carriageway from Mahipal Pur Red Light towards Mehrauli due to waterlogging. Traffic is affected on Phirni Road and Tooda Mandi Red Light, Najafgarh due to waterlogging. Kindly avoid travelling on Mahatma Gandhi Marg from Moti Bagh Junction towards Dhaula Kuan due to waterlogging near Shanti Niketan.”
IMD said: “Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over Delhi and adjoining areas.”
