Watch: Mausoleum & museum of Dr Zakir Husain, India’s 3rd president, damaged in thunderstorm

The rain and thunderstorm on Monday evening brought relief from hot and humid day. But at the same time it wreaked havoc across Delhi-NCR today with two people even being reported by the media to have died.

Jamia faced the brunt as many trees on the campus were uprooted. Mausoleum & museum of Dr Zakir Husain, India’s 3rd president, was also damaged in the thunderstorm with the outer wall of the building collapsing, said Okhla resident Wajid.

He said trees too were uprooted causing hardship to residents.

Uprooting of trees was reported from nearly 85 locations in areas under MCD.

Due to the high wind speed, trees got uprooted at many prominent places in Lutyens’ Delhi too.

“Till 7.15 pm, a total of 101 complaints were received about uprooted trees and broken branches. Work is on to clear the areas where such incidents have been witnessed. Several areas, including Bhagwan Das road, Connaught Place and SP Marg, have already been cleared,” a senior NDMC official said.

This is the first storm of “severe” intensity in Delhi since June 9, 2018, when Palam had logged a wind speed of 104 kmph, a Met department official said, reported NDTV. A moderate thunderstorm had hit the city last Monday.
