    Intense heat scorches Okhla, Delhi sees hottest April day in 12 years

    Intense heat scorches Okhla, Delhi sees hottest April day in 12 years

    The intense heatwave is causing hardship for Okhla residents as mercury soars. In many places, like Gurugram, the temperature crossed the 45-degree mark on Thursday. On Friday too residents faced heatwave with the mercury touching 42 at 1 pm.

    The national Capital saw the hottest April day in 12 years at 43.5 degrees Celsius. The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 43.7 degrees Celsius on April 18, 2010.

    The temperature in Allahabad (45.9 degrees Celsius), Uttar Pradesh; Khajuraho (45.6 degrees Celsius), Nowgong (45.6 degrees Celsius), and Khargone (45.2 degrees Celsius) in Madhya Pradesh; Akola (45.4 degrees Celsius), Bramhapuri (45.2 degrees Celsius) and Jalgaon (45.6 degrees Celsius) in Maharashtra and Jharkhand’s Daltonganj (45.8 degrees Celsius).

    “A rise of about two degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature (is) very likely over most parts of northwest India during the next two days,” said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

    “Heatwave is likely to sweep across the region with the maximum temperature hovering around 43 degrees Celsius on Thursday,” an IMD official said.

    Following the heatwave, many residents in Okhla on fast are preferring to stay indoors to avoid health issues. Ershad, who had suffered dehydration, in the beginning of Ramzan, said precautions need to be taken as people who are on empty stomach and fasting can face heatwave related illness.
