JTA holds EC meet, discusses important issue

Jamia Teachers’ Association (JTA) held an Executive Committee (EC) meeting on July 9, 2020, and discussed UGC/MHRD’s recent communication for final year students of all courses.

The EC appreciated the role of Vice Chancellor, Office of the Controller of Examinations, entire teaching community and students of Jamia Millia Islamia for successfully completing the process of examinations/presentations/viva voice through online mode despite present pandemic conditions. Students come from diverse eco-socio backgrounds and at present confined to rooms/homes.

Still they have shown a great instinct to defeat the depressing scenario under the shadow of COVID-19, said the JTA.

Earlier, in regard to examination modus operandi for final year students, UGC had clear recommendations, which were adopted by JMI, it said.

“All the required examination and evaluating processes through online mode were successfully conducted and completed in the light of those recommendations. Marks have also been submitted. In recent days, some confusion has been created by another guideline from MHRD/UGC with modulation in the examination mode for final year students has been recommended,” it said.

The JTA understands the present situation in the country during epidemic COVID-19. “We all should stand by the students and teachers with love and affection they deserve, and understand their psychological and mental state. UGC and MHRD should stick to their earlier recommendations of not conducting exams in physical mode.

“An unnecessary burden should not be forced on the students and their parents in the times of financial crisis to bring and take back their wards to university. It will expose them to COVID-19 threat and economic crisis.   We urge UGC and MHRD to cooperate in the direction of career, future and health of students and staff.

“Jamia is already done with the examinations process, including final year, very successfully.”

The JTA also requested Vice Chancellor Professor Najma Akhtar to write to the UGC/MHRG for endorsement of the earlier UGC guidelines and declare the results which are ready for disbursement so that outgoing students may take admissions to further courses in JMI or elsewhere, said JTA secretary Professor Majid Jamil.
