Shab-e-Barat 2021: Pray indoors, appeals Jama Masjid Imam

With Delhi seeing increase in Covid cases in second wave registering 1,558 new Covid-19 cases and 10 deaths on Saturday night, religious leaders, activists, the Delhi Police, the L-G and the Government have issued guidelines for the devotees.

Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Ahmed Bukhari in a video message said: “Shab-e-Barat is on March 28 and Holi festival is also falling on that day. The Covid-19 infection also continues to increase at a slow pace. Covid-19 guidelines have been issued as a precautionary measure by the government in Delhi and several other places.”

He said: “I appeal to all the people to avoid congestion on the streets as a precautionary measure and on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, people should offer prayers at mosques in their locality or at homes.”

Muslim leaders and activists in Okhla have also made this appeal on the social media platform.

Delhi LG Anil Baijal on Sunday greeted Delhiites on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat.

“The sacred night of Shabe-e-Barat is an occasion for families to pray for and remember their departed family members with reverence. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, people are requested to remain at home and refrain from any activity which compromises their safety and that of others. I appeal to all religious leaders, RWAs and parents to advise families to observe the occasion solemnly, while strictly adhering to Covid appropriate behaviour,” appealed the LG.

The Delhi Police tweeted: “We appeal to citizens to observe Shab-e-Barat & celebrate Holi differently this year in view of #COVID scenario. No public celebrations or gatherings allowed in public places, grounds, parks, markets, religious places as per DDMA guideline.”
