Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Prof Mazhar Asif and Registrar, Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi met the Chancellor (Amir-e-Jamia) of Jamia and leader of the worldwide Dawoodi Bohra community, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, in Surat, recently.

“The meeting with Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin focused on the university’s progress and discussed key institutional priorities. Special attention was given to the university’s on-going growth and future initiatives. Topics included the establishment of a Medical College and Hospital, the introduction of postgraduate MDS programmes in the Faculty of Dentistry, planning for the upcoming Convocation, and the construction of a new girls’ hostel to accommodate the university’s growing student community,” said the university.

Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin commended Jamia Millia Islamia for its academic excellence and contribution to national progress. He assured the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of his continued support and prayers for the university’s future success. The delegation also met his elder brother, Prince Qaidjoher Ezzuddin.

The delegation also toured Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah Arabic Academy, the community’s skill development centres, and its women’s empowerment initiatives run under the leadership of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin. These visits offered valuable insights into the community’s inclusive models of education and social welfare, which align with JMI’s vision of education as a force for equity, empowerment, and nation-building.

“The meeting with the Chancellor was both encouraging and inspiring and gave us the guidance that further strengthened our resolve to expand JMI’s role as a centre of academic excellence and social responsibility.” Prof. Asif and Prof Rizvi said.

“Under the visionary leadership of its Chancellor, who is renowned both nationally and internationally as an ambassador of peace, unity, compassion, and brotherhood, Prof. Asif and Prof. Rizvi reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the vision and mission of Jamia to bring the socially, economically and geographically marginalised students into the fold of education, development and nation building,” the university said.

The visit reflects Jamia’s on-going efforts to strengthen collaboration, enhance academic capacity, and align its initiatives with the university’s vision for its second century of growth and service to the nation.

In another development on the campus, the Department of English, Jamia Millia Islamia organised a One-Day International Conference on “Semiotics of Love: Between the Anthropological and the Cosmological Aspects of Being”.

The conference began with a welcome address by the HOD Professor Mukesh Ranjan.
