The Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies and Research (HILSR), Jamia Hamdard, in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), organized Aarambh 2025 — a two-day Youth Parliament held at Convention Centre, Jamia Hamdard. The programme was conceived to familiarize students with parliamentary functioning and to cultivate values of democratic leadership among youth.
The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Shri Sanjay Mayukh, Hon’ble Member of Bihar Legislative Council and Media Co-Head, BJP, as the Chief Guest; Surabhi Tiwari, renowned Kathak dancer, singer and social worker; A. A. Rahim, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha); and Dr. Rajiv Mani, ILS, Secretary, Legislative Department, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, as the Guest of Honour.
The deliberations underscored the role of youth in strengthening India’s democratic framework and highlighted the importance of informed participation, inclusivity, and constructive dialogue in parliamentary processes.
The event was organised under the patronage of Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, Hammad Ahmed, and the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, and Prof. (Dr.) Saleena K. Basheer, Dean, HILSR. Their leadership and vision greatly contributed to the success of Aarambh 2025.
This year’s edition witnessed the participation of more than 100 delegates representing over 54 universities across the country. The enthusiastic engagement of the delegates reaffirmed their commitment to the values of democratic dialogue, rigorous deliberation, and participatory governance.
The Valedictory Ceremony, held on August 26, 2025, was graced by A. A. Rahim, as the Chief Guest, and Hena Perveen, noted educationist, as the Guest of Honour. Their inspiring addresses to the delegates emphasised the importance of youth-led initiatives in shaping India’s democratic future and encouraged students to translate their parliamentary learning into real-world civic engagement.
The proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Amrutha Satheesan and Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor, HILSR. Aarambh 2025 reaffirmed Jamia Hamdard’s commitment to nurturing future leaders through experiential learning and democratic engagement.
In another development on August 13, Jamia Hamdard successfully organised the Inaugural Programme of Anti-Ragging Week 2025 (12th –18th August 2025) on 12th August 2025 at the Convention Centre, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. The event marked the commencement of a week-long series of activities dedicated to raising awareness against ragging and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment.
The programme was graced by Alok Kumar, Additional DCP, Rohini, Delhi, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Mohd. Asad Malik, Chief Proctor, Jamia Millia Islamia, as the Guest of Honour. The event was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam.
Distinguished attendees included Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar; S.S. Akhtar, Controller of Examinations; Prof. M. Shahar Yar, Chief Proctor; Prof. Reshma Nasreen, Dean, Students’ Welfare; Prof. S. Raisuddin, Dean (Academics); Deans of various Schools; Heads of Departments; Provosts; members of the Anti-Ragging Cell; faculty members; and student representatives.
The programme commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the Hamdard Tarana performed by students. Prof. M. Shahar Yar, Chief Proctor, Jamia Hamdard, delivered the welcome address. This was followed by the felicitation of guests with the presentation of planters as a token of appreciation.
Speeches were delivered by Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar and Prof. Reshma Nasreen, Dean, Students’ Welfare, highlighting the psychological and emotional impacts of ragging and urging students to report such incidents without fear.
Prof. Mohd. Asad Malik, Chief Proctor, Jamia Millia Islamia, sensitised students about the harmful effects of ragging and its legal consequences. Chief Guest Mr. Alok Kumar, Additional DCP, Rohini, Delhi delivered an impactful speech, tracing the history of ragging and its transformation into a serious concern within academic institutions. He also addressed preventive strategies and shared law enforcement perspectives.
Further, Prof. Reshma Nasreen provided detailed insights into UGC guidelines, legal provisions, and disciplinary measures related to ragging, reinforcing awareness and responsibility among students.
Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam delivered the Presidential Address. He reiterated the university’s firm stance against ragging and underlined its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy. He urged all stakeholders to unite in the fight against ragging, highlighting its legal definition and societal implications.
Following the address, the Chief Guest and the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor jointly administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) mass pledge to students and staff in both Hindi and English, reinforcing the university’s commitment to substance-free and safe campuses.
Dr. Nishat Quddus, Deputy Proctor, Jamia Hamdard delivered the vote of thanks and the event concluded with the national Anthem.
Street Play on Ragging Awareness: A powerful street play was performed by ten students of Jamia Hamdard to raise awareness about ragging and its consequences. The play was well-coordinated by 25 student volunteers and will continue to be showcased during the week.
Poster Making Competition: Over 100 students participated in a poster-making contest focused on anti-ragging themes. The top three posters were awarded for their creativity and message.
