Leaders’ tall claims fall flat ahead of Eid-Al-Adha 2023
Leaders have a habit to make tall claims and then renege on them. In Okhla too local leaders are no different.
A few days ago some among them made tall claims to take care of the locality during Eid-Al-Adha 2023 which is to be celebrated on June 29 with religious fervour.
The residents welcomed it but many were left deeply upset after a pile-up of garbage at Okhla Head. A resident Naseem said just see, just two days are left for Eid and the situation is bad. Residents said it is not only Okhla Head where the situation is bad, if you walk across the locality in Jamia Nagar, be it Abul Fazal Enclave, Shaheen Bagh, Batla House, Okhla Vihar, you will see garbage strewn on the road.
Many residents do blame local residents and shopkeepers who don’t take care of their surroundings and don’t hesitate to dump garbage on the road just to save a few bucks.
The big issue is keeping the area clean after the festival as residents lament that even days after the festival animals’ wastes are seen dumped on roadside in the open with the whole area stinking like hell.
This year too some residents have made a call to keep the area clean with social activist Syed Hashmi of ECM urging residents not to dump animal waste in the open. Also, Imam of Noor Mosque appealed to the residents to take care of cleanliness during the festival so that residents don’t face embarrassments when some outsiders do visit their houses on invite to relish on Eid delicacies.
