Rizwan Khan, Khudai Khidmatgar national organiser, who hosted the event at Sabka Ghar in Okhla today, said Hashmi worked for society and fight for voiceless people across the country. He never took money from poor people.

Khudai Khidmatgar convener Faisal Khan recalled his days with Ehtesham. Kaleemullah said his death is a huge loss to the marginalised.

Advocate Mukesh, Suyash Tripathi, Bahist Jahna and Javed Malik also shared their memories.
Rizwan said Hashmi was born in Sagar in Madhya Pradesh and is survived by father, mother and a brother and sister.

Hashmi had filed a PIL in the Supreme Court demanding that internet shutdowns be declared “unconstitutional, illegal and unenforceable”.
Hashmi was also among the many petitioners who had moved the top court challenging the Citizenship Amendment Act, reported barandbench.com.

During a TV debate on Times Now a month ago, Hashmi had said: “I want to teach history to Mohan Bhagwat,” reported Times Now.

Livelaw.in reported: “In 2021, he lead a team which published a fact-finding report about the communal violence in Tripura which shook the state. The Tripura police booked him under the UAPA over the publication of the report. Later, the Supreme Court ordered that no coercive steps including arrest should be taken against him.”
