Jamia celebrates 76th Independence Day with patriotic zeal, fervour

Jamia Millia Islamia today celebrated 76th Independence Day under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (AKAM).  JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar and Chief Guest of the function Mr. Ved Mani Tiwari, COO & Officiating CEO, National Skill Development Council (NSDC) hoisted the National Flag at the forecourt of Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium of the university. The Chief Guest and the Vice chancellor were welcomed by NCC Officers and cadets on arrival at the flag hoisting ceremony. Hoisting of the National Flag was followed by the singing of the National Anthem by students and staff of the university.

The Vice Chancellor and the Chief Guest addressed the gathering in the Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering & Technology of the university where cultural programmes were also organised after the address. University students sang Jamia Tarana and Jamia School students enthralled the gathering by their performances on patriotic songs, qawwali, speech etc.

Top achievers in UPSC Civil Services Exams from the Residential Coaching Academy (RCA), JMI this year were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor and the Chief Guest during the function. Four Jamia School students who recently attended NASA Summer Camp were also felicitated and the winners of the Poster Competition on Har Ghar Tiranga theme organised as part of AKAM were given awards and certificates.

During her address Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar said: “JMI is carrying forward the proud traditions of the country with diligence. The university is playing its important and unique role in keeping the country progressive, powerful and respectable. We all know that the progress of the nation is the progress of all of us.”

She further said that we are very happy that every step taken by JMI for the progress of the nation has always been worthy of the praise of the government. We all are playing an important role in nation building through our hard work. The university has achieved 3rd rank in NIRF and the credit goes to all of you.

Chief Guest of the function Ved Mani Tiwari said: “I am feeling very happy to attend this function that has given him a chance to meet a spectrum of youngsters comprising school and university students. It is a great feeling to attend the Independence Day function of an institution like Jamia which was born out of the freedom struggle and is currently the 3rd top university of the country. It will be a good opportunity and a privilege for my organisation NSDC to collaborate with Jamia for skill building and other areas. I hope that in future we will see such a thing happening,” Tiwari said.

JMI Registrar Prof. Nazim Husain Jafri presented a vote of thanks for the successful organisation of the function. The function ended with the singing of the National Anthem by the gathering.

The university has been in the celebration mode for the last few days as the nation completes 75th year of its independence. As part of AKAM the university has already hoisted Tiranga at all the important locations and buildings of the university to make Har Ghar Tiranga campaign successful. Ahead of the Independence Day the university and Jamia Schools has been organising a number of programmes like poster making competition on Har Ghar Tiranga theme, Tiranga Yatra, Marathon, flag distribution, observance of ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance  Day’ by organising an Exhibition titled ‘Recalling the Horrors of the British Rule in Pictorial & Poetic Afflictions’, street play on ‘Freedom from Substance Abuse’, Kavi Sammelan & Mushaira and many more programmes.
