2nd Delhi Police public library opens in Jamia Nagar, 3rd in Delhi
Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on Thursday inaugurated a “police public library” at the Okhla Vihar Metro Station in Abul Fazal Enclave through video conferencing from Vimarsh Auditorium, PHQ, Delhi, in a step towards strengthening community policing.
This is the second Delhi Police public library in Jamia Nagar and third in Delhi. The first police public library was opened in Jamia Nagar police station in 2012 and today its 10th foundation day was celebrated at the station. Besides 2 police libraries in Jamia Nagar, one library operates in RK Puram police stations.
“It helps to give youth the right direction and better opportunities. Community participation is essential for effective policing… All police stations of Delhi will have similar facilities in the coming three years,” said Asthana.
The third Delhi Police Public Library has been set up with cooperation of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and Nadeem-headed Shikhar Organisation for Social Development.
Speaking on the occasion, the top cop said a large number of students have benefitted by availing facilities of the existing Delhi Police Public Libraries.
The top cop thanked the stakeholders for associating with the Delhi Police in this cause. “All the police stations of Delhi will have similar facilities in the coming three years,” said the CP.
The state-of-the art library has seating arrangement for 80 individuals and is equipped with 5 computers having hi-speed internet facility.
The library has more than 3,000 books on a wide range of subjects for all classes including law and competition books, it said in a statement.
A large interactive digital board has also been installed for conducting smart classes for children visiting the library and the library shall remain open for students from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm.
A short film “Delhi Police ke saath chhatron ka vikas” was shown on the occasion.
More than three lakh children, youths have benefitted through facilities provided by Delhi Police Public Library, it said, adding the library has been set up for police wards and children from weaker sections of the neighborhood areas.
Spl CsP SBK Singh, S Sundari Nanda, Sanjay Baniwal, Mukesh Kumar Meena, Sanjay Singh, Nuzhat Hassan, Virender Singh, Robin Hibu, Neeraj Thakur, Madhup Kumar Tewari, Shalini Singh, Jaspal Singh & Dr Sagarpreet Hooda were present on the occasion with Deepak Varshney, GM(CSR), GAIL and Nadeem from NGO Shikhar, while students visiting the library joined through videoconferencing, said the PRO.
