Trial run of buses on 26 new bus routes from today

The Delhi Government will start the trial run on 26 new bus routes proposed under the Route Rationalisation study from October 2nd.

“The bus service on these new routes will start with 50 per cent deployment of buses. The newly introduced routes include 3 on Central Business District (CBD) Circulators, 2 on Super Trunk Routes, 18 on Primary and 3 on Airport Service routes. The routes under NCR and feeder routes, which were also part of the Route Rationalisation study by Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), will not be part of this trial for now,” it said.

“The wait is finally over. This is the beginning of new phase of Public Transport towards our mission of making Bus services more reliable and preferred mode of travel in the city,” said Kailash Gahlot.

The proposed new routes have been classified based on the function and operational level of services, as per the following:

    1.   Central Business District (CBD) Circulators- It will provide/improve connectivity between major CBDs of Delhi. These routes will be operational at a frequency of 5-10 min.
    2.   Trunk Routes- will provide connectivity to the CBDs from major hubs of the city.  These routes will be operational at a frequency of 5-10 min.
    3.   Primary Routes- will provide connectivity to the sub-CBDs from residential areas/ other sub-CBDs. These routes will be operational at a frequency of 10-20 min.
    4.   Airport Service Routes- will provide connectivity to the airport from major hubs of the city. These routes will be operational as airport express routes with a frequency of 10 min.

In August 2022, after the review and go ahead for the implementation of Route Rationalisation by Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, it was decided to start the trial run on 2nd October 2022, marking the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. In addition, for making the public aware of the proposed new routes, a public notice was issued by the Transport department on 20th Sep 2022. It also invited suggestions/feedbacks from all the stakeholders, which can be provided till 21st November 2022 on delhirrcell@gmail.com addressing to the Secretary (STA), Transport Department, 5/9 Under Hill Road, Delhi – 110054.

On this occasion, Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said “The wait is finally over. This is the beginning of new phase of Public Transport towards our mission of making Bus services more reliable and preferred mode of travel in the city. With strict adherence to the schedules and availability of bus in every 5-10 mins on these trial routes, the citizens of Delhi can plan their journey to their offices, homes and more in a better way. Under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi is on its path of providing Reliable, convenient and affordable public transportation facilities like those of the cities in Europe.”
