10,665 fresh cases, 8 deaths in Delhi
Delhi is seeing a huge rise in Covid cases with the city on Wednesday (January 5) seeing 10,665 fresh cases, 8 deaths and positivity rate jumping to 11.88 per cent. A day ago on Tuesday (January 4) the city registered 5,481 cases at positivity rate of 8.37 per cent.
The January 5 number is the highest since May 12.
As many as 251 hospital admissions were reported within the day, while the number of patients on ventilator support has gone up to 22 from 14 in a single day.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain had said Delhi was likely to record 10,000 cases today.
“Delhi is likely to report around 10,000 Covid infections today, with the daily positivity rate rising to nearly 10 per cent. The third wave of Covid-19 has set in,” ANI quoted Jain as saying.
To curb the surge, Delhi has imposed weekend curfew starting from this week.
