Jamia’s 102nd Foundation Day celebration kick-starts

The three-day celebration of 102nd Foundation Day of Jamia Millia Islamia began today with the inauguration of a student film festival ‘AJKMCRC FILMOTSAV’ by JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar at the preview theatre of the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, JMI.

Films made by students were screened at the day-long film festival. Along with the film screenings, the various media exhibits of the advocacy campaign- The Vayu Saga were also showcased. The advocacy campaign on “Tackling Air Pollution in the World’s Most Polluted City is a part of a joint project between AJK MCRC, JMI and Keele University, UK. Their exhibition included Grassroots Comics, Photographs, Community Game, E Rickshaw Photobooth.

The event also included a cultural performance by students, Screen Testing Booth, I Am Jamia Photobooth and exhibition of Puppets and Photobooks made by the students of MA Development Communication students.

The Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering and suggested that effective communication tools should be used to disseminate information about the importance of National Education Policy and students should actively engage in designing media interventions. The Chief Guest, Parashar gave insights on the need for Communication for Science.

The Premchand Archives and Literary Centre (JPALC), JMI presented a dramatized reading of Munshi Premchand’s ‘Shatranj ke Khiladi’. The performance was directed by Dr. Danish Iqbal and was performed by the students of PG Diploma, Acting, AJKMCRC,JMI. The event was staged in the presence of Prof. Kirti Jain, eminent Theatre Director and former Director of the National School of Drama(NSD) and JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar.

The performance was attended by a full house of students, teachers and distinguished guests. Prof. Jain praised the students for their fine performance and ability to effectively evoke the play’s historical ambience.

The Vice Chancellor congratulated the students and encouraged them to visit the archives and learn about the history of Jamia and the other holdings at the JPALC.
The Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics, JMI organized the Installation of the Indian Plumbing Association Student Chapter.
Chief Guest of the event Mukesh Asija, Chairman, Delhi Chapter, Indian Plumbing Association inaugurated the event in the presence of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar who presided over the function. Prof. Qamar Irshad, Head Department of Architecture felicitated the guests and welcomed the audience. He conveyed a brief about the IPA and its benefits to the students of Architecture and Planning.

Prof. Akhtar, apprised the audience about the importance of Plumbing as a part of Engineering and Design. She also emphasized that the start of the student chapter of IPA would provide exposure to students and the benefits associated in near future. This will provide a link between the academics and the industry, and expose students to state-of-art technology, which is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

Dr. Zakir Husain Central Library of the university organized a day-long exhibition titled ‘Jamia Millia Islamia: History & Freedom Fighters’ at the exhibition hall of the library. Books, photographs, newspapers and rare documents were on display to highlight the role of founders of JMI in the freedom struggle, association of Gandhiji and other freedom fighters with the university. The Exhibition was inaugurated by Parvesh Walia, Regional Sales Manager Believe Cosmetics Pvt Ltd. in the presence of Deans, University Librarian and other staff members of the university.

The main function of the Foundation Day will be held on October 29, 2022 with Jamia Flag Hoisting by JMI Vice Chancellor followed by s Guard of Honor to the Vice Chancellor and Chief Guest at 09.30 AM in the lawns of Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium. Dr. Subhas Sarkar, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Education, Government of India will be the Chief Guest and Dr. Upendra Giri, International member, Jamia Alumni Connect (California, USA) will be the Guest of Honour on this occasion.
A number of cultural programmes – Solo Song, Nukkar Natak, Group Song, Qawwali, Stage Play, Bait-Baazi, Self-composed poetry recitation, Foreign Students Cultural Programme – will also be organised in the Cultural Evening. Shri Ramchander Jangra, Rajya Sabha MP, Haryana and Prof. Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM, Govt. of India will be the Chief Guests of the programme to be held in Dr. M. A. Ansari Auditorium from 3 pm.

The day-long Foundation Day function will come to an end with ‘Flag Lowering Ceremony’ by NCC cadets at 5.30 pm in the lawns of Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium.
On the last day of the celebration, Faculty of Fine Arts, JMI will organise an Exhibition at the M.F. Husain Art Gallery of the university on 30th October, 2022 in the evening. Paintings and sculptures made by teachers and students of the faculty will be on display in the exhibition.
Jamia Alumni Connect (JAC) (Delhi Chapter) is also organising a programme on 30th October, 2022 at the Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, JMI from 5pm- 7pm. Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Commissioner of Police, Panchkula will be the Chief Guest(National) and Dr. Upendra Giri, International Member, Jamia Alumni Connect (California, USA) will be the Chief Guest( International) of the function.

Jamia Schools are also organising the Nehru Trophy Competition on 31st October, 2022 to celebrate the Foundation Day. A number of events like Fancy Dress, Action Song, Hasya Kavita and Poster Making will be organised in this inter-school competition.
