Watch: Zakir Nagar residents forced to live in hellish condition, complaints, video reports fall on deaf ears
Residents of this lane in Zakir Nagar said they are forced to live in hellish condition due to their street getting flooded with sewer water for the last six months. Worse, they said their several complaints to authorities and representatives have failed to convince them to clear the mess as they are busy in blame game. Moreover, video reports by the OT also have failed to yield positive results till now.
How pathetic is the situation in can only be understood by visiting street number 6 in Zakir Nagar backside of Islah mosque. Rabia said despite residents reaching to top representatives of the locality and officials no action has been taken to address the mess, leaving residents in great hardship. The situation is such that residents have been marooned as their street has been waterlogged on and off for the last six months, she said, adding that now they are losing all hope as even video reports about the issue have failed to move the authorities into action.
When the OT called Councillor Shoaib Danish and informed him about the pathetic condition of the road, he said he was well aware of it and from time to time has got waterlogging cleared. But the main problem is the wrong laying of sewer leading to perennial waterlogging which can only be addressed by dismantling it and addressing it a fresh, he said.
Danish said as Councillor he hasn’t got the jurisdiction to get it fixed by dismantling the sewer or getting the road paved again as it is handled by agency which comes under the Delhi Government.
On social media, AAP leader Mahmood has been attacking Congress Councillor Danish for not developing the locality despite ruling it for more than a three terms, a claim that the Councillor has termed as baseless.
Danish said he can only work on projects which come under his jurisdiction. “If you find dust and garbage on the road you call me and I will get it fixed in hours. There are many things which no more come under the jurisdiction of Councillor and s/he is unable to address it despite willing to do so. My hands are tied,” he said.
