Watch: Results signal endgame for Congress, AAP new Opposition, says Councillor Wajid

After counting trends on Thursday morning showed AAP inching towards forming its government for the first time in years in Punjab by unseating ruling Congress, celebrations began in Okhla, the bastion of AAP for more than seven years.

Several local AAP leaders, including Abul Fazal Enclave ward Councillor Wajid Khan, and other ticket seekers from other wards including Mahmood, Firoz, Shakeel and others rushed to AAP ITO office to join the workers in celebrations.

Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan also tweeted over the victory of AAP in Punjab.

“The results show the endgame for Congress and now AAP has emerged as main Opposition party to the BJP at the Centre. The result will have impact in MCD polls 2022 and Okhla politics,” said Wajid from his office.

Other Okhla leaders termed the win as historic exuding confidence that the party will expand its base in other parts of the country and win more States in coming year.

After the win, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal addressed a public gathering in Delhi. Invoking freedom fighter Bhagat Singh’s quote “nothing changes if the system doesn’t change after independence,” he said: “They didn’t not change anything even after 75 years of independence. AAP has changed the politics of the country. We have changed the system, we have made schools and hospitals for government. I want to appeal people of Punjab to join AAP. Sometimes people think what they can do – they are common people. But I want to ask something – who defeated Channi today? A man who works in a mobile repair shop.”

As the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to win over 90 seats, its national convener called his party’s victory a “revolution”.
