A delegation of Welfare Party of India (WPI) led by national president Dr SQR Ilyas met former Chief Minister and Samajwadi party supremo Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow a few days ago, said the WPI.
A detailed discussion took place between both the parties and it was agreed between both the parties that they will form an alliance in the forth coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, said the WPI in a statement issued to the media from its Okhla-based headquarters.
“It was decided that a joint press conference will be held by both parties after Navrati to announce the same. It was decided that there will be seat sharing between the two parties. It was decided that both the parties will work together to defeat the BJP.
It was decided that a detailed electioneering meeting between the two parties will take place soon to carry forward the agenda. Discussion took place for more than an hour on various topics. National leaders & UP State leaders of WPI and Akhilesh Yadav & Samajwadi Party leaders participated in the meeting,” said the WPI.
Dr. SQR Ilyas said a value based government should be formed with all sections of society. “To defeat the BJP, all secular parties must be brought together. We have to form alliances with small political parties so that a grand alliance is formed,” he said.
Akhilesh said: “We will keep in mind the advice of the Welfare Party.”
According to the WPI, there will be a manifesto on women’s representation, employment, the rights of backward people, and the solution of farmers problems.
“The two parties are preparing to fight the elections jointly against communal forces. Electoral strategy is also being taken,” it said.
