600 ulemas gather at Shaheen Bagh to deliberate on Muslim issues
A general meeting of Shia Ulema Assembly was held at Jamia Ahle Bait in Shaheen Bagh a few days ago. BY SYED WASI IMAM
Ulemas from all parts of India participated. Learned Maulanas and intellectuals from Ladakh, J&K, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Gujarat, and other parts of the country, participated in this one-day seminar, according to a statement issued by the organisation.
“About 600 participants were present and most of them expressed their views. The programme started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Maulana Namdar Abbas. Maulana Syed Mohammad Askari highlighted the aims and objective of the organisation,” it siad.

He said the need to organise this Assembly of Shia Ulema was felt by some prominent people of the community. Changing atmosphere in our country necessitates forming this peaceful body, and this assembly is unrelated to any individual, previous organisation, or group.
About 20 participants deliberated on the social, religious and community-based issues of Muslims, in general and the Shia community in particular, it said.
In a general body meeting, the same evening, where entry was open to local writers, journalists, intellectuals and social activists, these issues were further discussed. The locals gave their suggestions and informed the Assembly about their issues. It was decided that these issues will be discussed further locally and in future in the coming Assembly, it said.
This social body was formed on 2nd of February 2022, this was its second general meeting.
