Throwing light on the new vice which has become a norm in Muslim society, the religious leader delivering Friday Khutba from Ishaate Islam Masjid told the gathering that it is important that youngsters should go for simple marriages.
Also, he pointed out that husband should pay the “mehar” amount to his wife. He said many people don’t give share to daughters or sisters in their ancestral properties which is un-Islamic practice. The mosque has facility for women devotees also.
Many people are against expensive marriages as they say it is unwarranted and puts pressure on others in society. It has been noticed that now marriages are being held in 5-star hotels where a family spends lakhs of rupees on food. Extravagance, show-off, lavishness, luxury, and superfluity can be used as synonyms for weddings now, said a resident, who was in the mosque.
Exchange of jewellery and expensive gifts have now become a social obligation with many parents even taking loans to get their daughter marry.
In Okhla too many such marriages are held where people are seen frittering away huge money in one night.
