Commuters sweat in 41 degrees Celsius as untimely silt removal chokes Abul Fazal Enclave road

Commuters sweat in 41 degrees Celsius temperature on Thursday afternoon as untimely silt removal chokes Abul Fazal Enclave road, said residents.

Residents said had it been done at night they would have not faced hardship by getting stuck in heavy traffic jam. “It makes no sense to get the silt removed at daytime that too in this hot weather. One side of the road is blocked and people in rush to reach their destination are taking wrong side which is creating road block. This has been happening for the last two days. And every day it has been observed that it is creating traffic jam and hardship to residents,” said a commuter.

Another resident Syed Hashmi told the OT that a day ago he was taking his daughter for exam and he got stuck in the traffic jam as silt was being picked up by blocking one side of the road. It makes no sense as the work can be done at night so that residents are spared hardship, he said.

It was a few days ago when the nallah was cleaned and the silt was left unattended on the road for days with residents getting furious. Many residents had complained that in the name of cleaning the nallah the area has got dirty as the silt was left unattended for days. With dusty storm only a few days ago the dry silt flew in the air, said one resident on the condition of anonymity. Moreover the illegally parked cars on the roadside also creates trouble as those responsible for cleaning the silt said it becomes difficult to run cleaning operation due to parked car.

Residents said it is very common in the locality that silt is left on the road for days and weeks.
