Congress leader Shoaib Danish is at the centre of controversy since the AAP attacked the Congress on Friday claiming that Shoaib’s wife Zakir Nagar Councillor Nazia Danish was included by the LG in a notification for member of Delhi Haj Committee. And as the election to the mayoral poll got cancelled due to fighting among BJP-AAP Councillors in the MCD over swearing in of alderman first and other issues, Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan fired the first salvo accusing the Congress of hobnobbing with the BJP.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the notification “illegal” and said neither government was consulted nor a proper process was followed.
The Haj Committee members include BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, two Aam Aadmi Party MLAs – Abdul Rehman and Haji Yunus, Congress Councillor Naziya Danish, Muslim theology expert Mohammad Saad and Kausar Jahan as a member from Muslim voluntary organisations, according to a PTI report.
“The LG stole Delhi Government’s right to appoint Haj Committee members and nominated a new committee without consulting the elected government. Such practice of directly issuing directions to officers and getting notifications done is illegal and unconstitutional,” said Kejriwal.
Danish trashed the allegation and even said he would be sending defamation notice to a senior AAP leader for tarnishing his image. Political observers said Danish, who after winning Councillor election for fourth time, appeared to be cornered with the development and went on FB live and even spoke with reporters to clear the air as he is a strong contender for Congress MLA ticket from Okhla.
With the Zakir Nagar ward being reserved for women, Danish wife Nazia fought the election and won with a wafer thin margin.
