Professor Shamshad Ali Khan passed away on Thursday night after prolonged illness, according to a family member. He was 83 years old.

His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held today at 01:30 pm at Markaz Jamaat e Islami Hind, Abul Fazal Enclave after Friday prayer and tadfeen at 1:45 pm at Shaheen Bagh Qabristan, said a family friend. He was residing in D-block Abul Fazal Enclave with his family.

Khan’s son Kazim Ali Khan, Assistant Registrar, Jamia, told the OT over phone that his father had retired from Jamia in 2001.

Born on January 11, 1939, Khan had joined Jamia in 1968 when the university was developing and the physics department was new.

For the last two months, Khan was unwell and was hospitalised in Escorts twice and on Wednesday night he was rushed to a hospital and he died on Thursday night at 9.30 pm, said Kazim.

A retired Jamia Professor NU Khan, who resides in Abul Fazal Enclave and is his neighbour, said: “He was a resident of D block. He used to stay in his house. Since the surfacing of pandemic could not meet him. His wife died during the first lockdown.”

Khan has left behind four sons. His one son is Professor Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
