Youm -e- Zauq (The Zauq Day) was celebrated at Ghalib Institute, New Delhi under the aegis of Anjuman Tarraqi- e-Urdu Hind-Delhi in the memory of the renowned Urdu Poet Shaikh Mohammad Ibraheem Zauq.
The first session of the programme was presided over by Professor S R Kidwai*, Secretary, Ghalib Institute. Iqbal Masood Farooqui, the president of Anjuman welcomed all the scholars who graced the august gathering with their precious presence. Professor Ibne Kanwal, Delhi University was the chief guest at the event. Dr. Khalid Alvi, Pro. Mohd. Kazim, Delhi University, Dr. Aqeel Ahmed, Ghalib Academy, Nizamuddin and Suhaib Farooqui, Inspector, Delhi Police elaborated on various aspects of the legendary Zauq’s Urdu poetry in their addresses. The session was compered by Dr. Idris Ahmed, Director, Ghalib Institute.
The second session of the programme was Mushaira based on the couplet of ghazals of Zauq. The mushaira was presided over by senior poet Viqar Manvi. Mushaira was conducted immaculately by Anas Faizi in style. Dr. Zafar Moradabadi, Matin Amrovi, Rashid Hamidi, Iqbal Firdausi, Dr Iffat Zarrin, Suhaib Farooqui, Ashkara Khanam Kashf, Anas Faizi and Chashma Farooqui recited their poetry. At the end of the Mushaira, the Secretary of Anjuman, Dr. Idris Ahmed presented a vote of thanks expressing his deep gratitude to all the poets who illuminated the evening.
