Section 144 imposed in Jamia Nagar. Details here and fresh raids on PFI
The Delhi Police has imposed Section 144 in Jamia Nagar, reported the media. Many Okhla residents came to know about the development after Jamia Millia Islamia issued a notice a day before Jamia Teachers’ Association (JTA) had decided to hold a peaceful protest march to Vice Chancellor office over some unfulfilled demand.
However, in an emergency meeting called today, the JTA said: “In the light of above, we are holding our proposed protest march scheduled today at 12.30 pm in abeyance.”
A notice from Jamia Proctor doing the round in the social media pointed out: “The undersigned has been informed by the SHO, Jamia Nagar Police Station that the Section 144 Cr.P.C has been imposed in the entire Okhla (Jamia Nagar) with effect from 19.09.2022 to 17.11.2022.
It may further be noted that the violation of Section 144 Cr.P.C. is punishable under Section 188 Cr.P.C. In view of the above, all students of Jamia Millia Islamia including teaching and non-teaching staff are hereby advised not to assemble in groups/march/agitation/dharna/meetings etc. in and outside campus failing which the violators will be held responsible for action by the Delhi Police.”
Some reports in the media pointed out that the section 144 has been imposed following fresh raids on PFI. However, news agency IANS quoting Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa reported: “It is not related to the action against PFI. The order is 10 days old.”
On raids on PFI, news agency ANI tweeted: “30 people have been arrested, says Delhi Police. Joint raids by a Central agency and Delhi Police are underway at places related to PFI in different parts of the national capital including Nizamuddin, Shaheen Bagh area.”

Section 144 of the CrPC prohibits the assembly of four or more people in an area. Violation of the order is punishable under section 188 of the IPC.
An order was issued by the assistant commissioner of police of New Friends Colony stating that section 144 of the CrPC was imposed in the Jamia Nagar area on September 19.
As per the order, the police have prohibited the carrying of “mashal” or torch, live flames, live fire candles or live fire in any form in processions, rallies or functions in the entire jurisdiction of the sub-division of New Friends’ Colony.
The order came into force on September 19 and will remain in effect for a period of 60 days up to November 17, unless withdrawn earlier.
