SDMC Mayor chairs high-level meeting on desilting, waterlogging

SDMC Mayor Anamika discussed the issue of desilting and water logging in SDMC localities in a high level meeting attended by senior officers and representatives of other government agencies.

The Mayor stated that keeping in view the expected rainfall in this monsoon season all agencies will have to work in tandem and have to work extra to tackle the problem.

The Mayor stated that every year citizens have to face problems due to waterlogging which results in longer traffic jams. It would be better if the agencies take proactive actions, work in tandem and avoid blame game then it would become easy to avoid earlier situations. All traditional water logging points were discussed separately in the meeting.

A few among them are Dhansa Road Najafgarh, Sangam Vihar, Lajpat Nagar underpass, Kushak Nallah, Sunhari Nallah, Mehrauli, Defence Colony, Papravat Village etc.

The Mayor further stated that the certain agencies are being repeatedly contacted for desilting of nallahas and water logging problems but the problems are becoming complex. She asked all concerned to seriously undertake desilting work and resolve the problem of waterlogging.

Anamika instructed to conduct joint inspection of a number of nallaha so that the bottlenecks in desilting work could be resolved.

The DDA officers assured that the desilting work is most likely to complete the work of three nallahas within a week. She asked them to complete this work in parts coming under SDMC jurisdiction in Jangpura nallah, Lajpat Nagar nallah and Rose Garden nallah. The DJB is being requested to remove blockage in Subhash Nagar and Dichaun nallahas.

The Irrigation and Flood Control department informed that the work of cleaning in Subhash Nagar and Pankha Road is in progress and the same will be completed soon.
