Sadia khan is working under the supervision of Prof. Zahid Ashraf, her PhD research work involves the investigation of role of inflammation in development of Preeclampsia (PE).
Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy and has been a leading cause of infant mortality and still birth in India. The main symptoms are high blood pressure, and high levels of protein in urine. If untreated, it can be fatal to mother and to baby. In India, 5-15% pregnant women have preeclampsia.
The research on PE is being conducted in collaboration with Lady Harding Medical College, New Delhi for development of biomarkers for early detection of diseases in pregnant women. Early detection and timely intervention can ameliorate the PE problem to some extent. Healthy lifestyle and healthy eating can go some way in facing the challenge of PE.
