Watch: 5 people in race to buy Rs 1 cr goat, owner to announce buyer’s name after Friday prayer in Zakir Nagar
A goat has been at the centre of attraction in Okhla since its video surfaced in which the goat’s owner, Salik Usmani, a resident of Bihar residing in Delhi for the last more than 10 years, demanded Rs 1 crore for the special goat.
When the OT spoke with him on Eid-Al-Adha day on Thursday in Zakir Nagar about the goat, he said there are five people who have shown interest in purchasing the goat on which Allah and Muhammad are inscribed. Though the goat is small, Usmani is hopeful that somebody will come forward to purchase it as two more days are left for Eid to end.
He said he will be making an announcement about the buyer on Friday after juma namaz outside Zakir Nagar main mosque at 2 pm.
When asked at what price he is going to sell his goat, he said: “A few people have called to buy the goat. On Friday I will finalise the deal and then will make an announcement.”
Usmani said the goat has been taken care of by his mother and he transported it to Delhi from Bihar this year with sole purpose to sell it. He said initially he took it to Dhobi Ghat and then to Jama Masjid looking for buyers but it appears till now luck is yet to smile on him.
Residents who have been following goat business in Okhla this year said this is not the first case. Just days after Dhobi Ghat mandi started a trader from Rajasthan was asking Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand for his goat inscribed Allah on it. As he failed to find any buyer, he left for Jama Masjid. Later on another man from UP’s Sitapur landed in Dhobi Ghat to sell his goat for Rs 12 lakh as he claimed that Allah was inscribed on it. He too was unable to find a buyer and left for his hometown.
It would be interesting to see whether Usmani will succeed in getting a buyer as he has claimed.
