Residents’ opinion: Will Owaisi party spoil game of other candidates in AFE-Shaheen Bagh?
As election is picking up with parties reaching voters to win their hearts and minds and everybody focusing on politicians, the OT team is moving in the area to gauge public mood. In one such interaction with some residents at a popular tea shop in Abul Fazal Enclave, the OT spoke with a few people.
The interaction which lasted for more than 20 minutes saw residents talking about major issues with one resident saying: “We tested Congress and AAP and both of them have failed miserably to develop the locality, so here is a time to give chance to AIMIM candidate Md Arif Saifi as the party is new,” said Rizwan Khan. Though everybody didn’t agree with him save one resident who said AIMIM is emerging as a popular party among youngsters.
Activist Izhar said it is too early to jump to any conclusion. “The clear picture of which leader is emerging as a front runner will only be known after a few days. So I think we should wait and watch rather than rushing to make our opinion,” he said.
Other residents present at the tea shop pointed out about major issues like garbage dump in the open, roadside encroachment, illegal roadside parking, supply water, inordinate delay in finishing sewer work with several roads left after being dug up causing hardship for residents.
The election for the 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be held on December 4 and the results will be declared on December 7, 2022. From AFE ward, sitting Councillor AAP’s Wajid Khan is up against anti-incumbency with former Okhla Congress MLA Asif Md Khan’s daughter Areeba Khan contesting on Congress ticket, JDU’s Ashu Khan and AIMIM Arif Saifi, BJP and Chandra Shekhar Party are also in the race.
