He was suffering from old age ailments and was undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospital for a month, said sources, adding that it was here that he passed away on Saturday.

Mourning his death, Professor Akhtarul Wasey wrote: “We lost in him a great mentor, senior colleague and a very pleasant person. May Allah bless him with rehmat and maghfirat.”

A former Siddiqui’s student wrote this on his timeline a few hours ago: “In my opinion he was one of the very few social work academicians from sub continent whose books were widely referred by both students and teachers. It was indeed honour to be a student of such a thorough academician.

Professor Siddiqui was associated with Jamia for over 35 years and later on in 2011 he taught at Department of Social work, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, and spent some time at Mizoram University.

“In student circles he was called Baba with love. Baba you will be missed Rest in Peace. Condolences to Siddiqui Family,” wrote the netizen.

Mohammed Shahid, Professor at the MANUU’s Department of Social Work said: “He is one of the very few people whose book Working With Communities is used when teaching students in this country. Otherwise for the most part, textbooks authored by foreign academics are used.”

A press release from MANUU said: “His intellectual and administrative abilities are the major reasons that the Social Work department reached new heights.”

Also, he won several awards, including one in 2015, Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Association of Professional Social Workers in India.
