Urdu critic, playwright, poet and retired Jamia Prof Shamim Hanfi no more

He was 81 years old.
Several tweets and posts have surfaced online a few minutes ago about the demise of Professor Shamim Hanfi.
He was born on May 17, 1939 in Sultanpu to Mohd Yaseen Siddiqui, an advocate, and Begum Zaibunnisa. He was associated with Jamia Millia Islamia and before joining Jamia he taught Urdu at Aligarh Muslim University.
“It is a great loss. We lost a great critic and man of letter. He was very well versed in English and Hindi literature too. I have benefited from his wisdom,” said Padma Shri Professor Akhtarul Wasey.
