    Jamia Millia Islamia Urdu faculty member Professor Shehzad Anjum has been bereaved as he lost his brother, who was working with Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

    Today the university paid tributes to departed colleague Prof. Mohd. Zafaruddin, Director, Centre for Urdu Culture Studies who passed away today morning in Hyderabad due to cardiac attack.

    He was among the first employees of the university.

    He is survived by wife Dr. Mosarrat Jahan, Associate Professor, Dept. of Urdu, MANUU, a daughter and two sons.

    Prof. Mohd. Zafaruddin joined MANUU on March 16, 1998 as Assistant Public Relations Officer. He was appointed as Reader, Translation Division on September 13, 2004 and later appointed as Professor, Department of Translation on March 4, 2008.

    He served in different capacities as Dean (School of Languages), Head (Dept. of Translation), Proctor, Director I/c (Directorate of Translation & Publication) and was still a member of Executive and Academic Councils of MANUU.

    Prof. S M Rahmatullah, Vice Chancellor I/c, and Prof. Siddiqui Mohd. Mahmood, Registrar I/c recalled the invaluable services of Prof. Zafaruddin to the university and visited his family to express their condolences.

    An online condolence meeting was also held today at the university.

    Prof. Rahmatullah described Prof. Zafaruddin as a polite, humble and good human being. He used to do best work with dedication & sincerity. Prof. Siddiqui Mohd. Mahmood read out the condolence resolution on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. PF Rahman while remembering Prof. Zafaruddin said he did lot of publicity work of MANUU during the initial days of establishment and has also played an important role in establishing translation division and Directorate of Translation & Publication.

    Prof. Khazi Ziaulla (Bangalore), Prof. Syed Alim Ashraf, Prof. Shahid Naukhez Azmi and Prof. Fahim Akhtar also expressed their condolences. Large number of MANUU fraternity from all over the country joined the online meeting and also expressed their condolences. Prof. Saneem Fatima and M G Gunasekaran also attended the meeting.
