A team of volunteers from the Society for Bright Future (SBF), Delhi, rushed to Sadbhavna Park in Daryaganj on Wednesday, moments after a tragic building collapse, it said. Police confirmed that three people lost their lives in the incident, casting a pall of grief over the area.

Irfan Ahmad, the national coordinator of the Okhla-based headquartered NGO, said SBF volunteers joined the rescue work along with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

A Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said they got the first call about the building collapse in Daryaganj at 12:14 pm, after which four fire engines were sent to the spot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan was quoted by PTI as saying that the injured have been moved to the LNJP Hospital. “Civic authorities, including DDMA, have been informed and rescue efforts are underway. Legal action will be taken after verification of facts,” he added.

The three workers reported to be killed were identified as Zubair, Gulsagar, and Taufiq. Civic authorities, including DDMA, have been informed for further action.

The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to Lok Nayak Hospital. Civic authorities, including the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), have been apprised about the situation. Police said legal action will be considered after authorities verify facts, ANI reported.

A Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said they received information about the incident at 12:14 pm. Soon after, four fire engines were rushed to the spot where a three-storey building, ground plus two floors, had collapsed, reported news agency PTI.

According to the official, three people were rescued from the debris and taken to hospital. “Three persons were rescued from the debris and immediately taken to hospital,” PTI quoted him as saying. Rescue operations are still underway, while the cause of the collapse is not yet known.

Irfan Ahmad said he held a discussion with the NDRF Inspector at the site and assured full cooperation from SBF in the relief efforts.

SBF volunteers, including Amaan, Rizak, and Hamza, actively supported the ongoing operations, working shoulder-to-shoulder with the official agencies to help the affected families, the NGO said.

“SBF has always been at the forefront of disaster management and humanitarian relief across India. Once again, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to serving people in times of crisis, standing united with victims and rescue teams during this tragic incident,” it added.

Though the tragedy occurred in Daryaganj, far from Okhla, residents expressed deep shock and sorrow over the collapse and the deaths. Many said the incident has once again raised serious concerns about the sturdiness of buildings.
