Watch: Okhla youth arrested for ‘rash’, ‘dangerous’ driving on busy highway; SUV impounded

A 21-year-old youth has been arrested after a video of his black SUV zigzagging dangerously on a busy highway went viral on social media, officials said on Wednesday.

99% of Delhi NCR people driving Mahindra's XUV, Thar and Scorpio are mentally ill.

Police identified the accused as Daud Ansari, a resident of Okhla, and said the black Scorpio-N SUV with tinted windows was registered in his father Musafir Ansari’s name. Police seized the driver’s licence and impounded the vehicle as part of the legal proceedings.

The incident occurred between 3 pm and 4 pm on January 18 on the GT Karnal Bypass Road near Narela, police said. Officers said the reckless driving posed a serious threat to commuters using the busy stretch.

“The incident occurred between 3 pm and 4 pm on January 18 on the GT Karnal Bypass Road. The manner in which the vehicle was being driven posed a grave risk to commuters. The offending SUV has been impounded as per legal provisions and further investigation into the matter is underway,” the officer said.

The viral video showed the SUV swerving across lanes at high speed, putting the safety of other commuters at risk.. After the clip was flagged, a police team tracked and intercepted the vehicle, an official told news agency PTI.

Based on the video evidence and preliminary inquiry, police registered a case for rash and negligent driving endangering human life, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, officials said.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reacted to the incident on social media, stressing the need for strict action against reckless drivers to ensure public safety.

This is not an isolated incident. Earlier this month, officers arrested several youths from Jamia Nagar for reckless stunt driving on Ring Road.
