Many left homeless as Noor Nagar fire guts shanties, no casualties
Minutes after the Noor Nagar fire whose smoke created huge clouds over Okhla which could be even seen from Abul Fazal Enclave was doused on Wednesday, burned vehicles, trees and other items were strewn all over the area.

“Slum fire at Noor Nagar in Jamia Nagar at 3 pm today, several fire engines rushed. Fire doused. Many slum dwellers left homeless. LPG cylinders also exploded,” wrote Okhla resident Bilal Zaidi who captured a 50 second video of the raging fire.
Officials from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said the fire spread as houses, e-rickshaws and LPG cylinders caught fire at Noor Nagar. No casualties have been reported so far. Residents said as fire broke in the afternoon people rushed out of the compound to save their lives.

Several ambulances were also rushed to the spot with the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) teams successfully controlling the blaze within minutes of reaching the spot.
“Initially, we sent nine fire tenders to the spot but soon the fire spread to other shanties. Four more tenders were called in. The firemen rescued the residents in time and controlled the blaze,” said DFS chief Atul Garg, adding that they received a call about the fire at 3.13 pm.
Another resident Taj Mohammad, who also captured a video of the incident from his high-rise building, said the fire broke at 2:30 pm and spread to other shanties. Residents rushed out and started shouting for help with many locals to turning up, he said.
