    Mushirul Hasan’s contributions towards academic, structural growth of Jamia recalled

    JMI organises Mushirul Hasan Memorial Seminar

    The Department of History & Culture, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a one-day Mushirul Hasan Memorial Seminar under the aegis of the Mushirul Hasan Endowment Fund on 23rd February 2023. The theme of the Seminar was: History of Health Consciousness in Indian Culture. The Keynote address was delivered by Professor Devendra Sharma of State University of California USA.

    The Address was presided over by JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) . The Vice Chancellor recalled the contributions of late Prof. Mushirul Hasan towards the academic and structural growth of the University. She also shared her views on the relevance of the topic of the Seminar. Further, she emphasized that excellence in institutions has to be a team work where every angle of such growth has to be nurtured and valued.

    Prof. Zoya Hasan, wife of Late Prof. Mushirul Hasan appreciated the efforts of the Vice Chancellor towards ensuring that the Endowment Fund is well managed and put to noble use.

    Prof. Sharma said that emphasis on physical activities and mental renunciation were a part of Indian Culture since ancient times. In context of the famous story of Shrawan Kumar he pointed out that respect and gratitude towards parents always helps in lessening stress and anxiety.

    Prof. Heeraman Tiwari delivered a special lecture on the importance of words: spoken, written and memorized and how they impact the human mind.

    The program was attended by Prof. Nazim Husain Al-Jafri, Registrar, JMI and Heads of the Departments of History of the University of Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Aligarh Muslim University. Many well known historians and teachers attended the seminar and made presentations.

    More than two dozen papers were presented in the technical sessions. The themes covered topics across all periods of time from ancient to current. All angles of healers and healing practices were covered and discussed. The seminar was exceptionally well attended.
