Munna Khalid’s journey to stardom in sports world is impressive and he is a role model for youths. Munna Khalid, a PhD student at Jamia Millia Islamia has won two bronze medals in Bahrain Para Badminton International 2024 (Level-1).

The Championship was organised by Badminton World Federation (BWF) in Manama city of Bahrain from December 11 to 15, 2024. Following this accomplishment, Munna Khalid has attained the distinction of being the tenth ranked shuttler globally.

Notably, only the top twelve ranked players globally are eligible to compete in the Level-1 tournament. Khalid advanced to the semifinals following a series of victories in the group matches ultimately settling for a bronze in both singles and mixed doubles events.

    Munna Khalid’s journey
In September, Khalid achieved tremendous success by winning two bronze medals at the Indonesia Para Badminton International 2024. Earlier, in July, he had an impressive performance at the Uganda Para Badminton Championship 2024, securing gold, silver and bronze. Additionally, in December, 2023, he added another bronze medal at the Khelo India Para Games. To date, Khalid has won a total of nine international medals representing India, comprising two gold, two silver and five bronze medals.

Munna Khalid’s achievement praised by Jamia VC
Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif along with the Hony. Director of Games and Sports JMI, Prof. Nafis Ahmed, extended their congratulations to Khalid for his remarkable achievement and expressed their best wishes for his future pursuits. Expressing his joy over this achievement, Khalid stated that his aspiration is to secure a medal for the nation in the forthcoming Asian Games and Paralympics.

Khalid is currently pursuing his PhD in Hindi Literature from JMI. Previously, he completed his B.Sc. (Hons.), MSW, and MA (Hindi), all from JMI.

This is not for the first time that Munna Khalid has made Jamia and India proud with his stellar performance, said Naseem-ur-Rahman, an alumnus of Jamia. He said he is a role model and youths should get inspired by him that if one has a set goal then nobody can stop him or her from reaching a new height.

A year ago Munna Khalid was honoured with the Delhi State Award for his outstanding performance in sports. Then Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had given this award to him on October 9, 2023 in an event held at Shah Auditorium, Delhi.

This notable award is given every year to one male and one female achiever.

Munna Khalid is the only badminton player from Delhi who has brought glory to the State of Delhi as well as the country in Para Badminton.

Very recently, in an award ceremony held at Jamia, he was honoured by Jamia alumni. The event which was organised by alumni saw participations from Jamia pass-out from across the country. The newly-appointed Jamia Vice Chancellor also graced the occasion with other top university officials. Several other Jamia alumni were also honoured at the gala event.
