    Watch: ‘Mother of Jamia’ title for Najma at event to felicitate V-C on being awarded Padma Shri

    ‘Mother of Jamia’ title for Najma at event to felicitate V-C on being awarded Padma Shri

    At event held at Dr Ansari Auditorium to felicitate her on being awarded Padma Shri, Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor got ‘Mother of Jamia’ title, according to reliable university sources, who were present in the auditorium.

    While addressing the gathering, JASA general secretary Naseem Ahmad gave her title of “Amma of Jamia” said one university staff who was present in the jam-packed auditorium. He told the OT that he said actually Najma is even dearer to us than our mother.

    The three staff associations of Jamia: Jamia Teachers’ Association (JTA), Jamia Administrative Staff Association (JASA) and SRK Staff Association felicitated Najma on Friday on being conferred Padma Shri by the Government of India.

    The Vice Chancellor was presented with bouquet of flowers.

    The JASA and SRK Staff Association jointly organised the felicitation programme. The Vice Chancellor was welcomed with a big round of applause by the non-teaching staff members who attended the function.

    Jahangeer Ahmad, President & Nasim Ahmad, General Secretary of the JASA and Mansoor Ahmad, President  &  Jabir Hasan, General Secretary, SRK Staff Association formally welcomed the Vice Chancellor on the dais with a bouquet of flowers.

    Jamia Registrar Prof Nazim Husain Al Jafri was also present on the occasion.

    During her address, Najma said it is a great moment for me and I thank you all for such a warm welcome.

    “I still remember the day I joined the university when I was welcomed with open arms that gave me courage to do work effectively for the betterment of the university. I always received necessary support from the non-teaching staff of the university which is really praiseworthy.”
