Prof Mehtab gets plum posting in Jamia
Professor Mehtab Alam, Department of Civil Engineering, has been appointed as the Pro Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia with effect from January 23.

The decision regarding it was taken today in the meeting of Executive Council (EC) of the Jamia Millia Islamia.
Known to be very close to the Vice Chancellor as both are from Aligarh Muslim University, Professor Mehtab was appointed Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor from May 2019 to February 2020.
He has held several top positions in Jamia being Dean, Students’ Welfare, Chief Proctor from July 2014 to June 2017 when Professor Talat Ahmed was Vice Chancellor of Jamia.
From July, 2016 to June 2019 he was Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology.
Soft spoken, Prof Mehtab is well connected and is to retire within a few months, according to university sources.
Professor Mehtab did his BSc Engineering (Civil) AMU Aligarh, in 1985 and MTech from IIT Delhi in 19990 and PhD from IIT-D in 1999.
Other important decisions were also taken at the EC.
The EC resolved to approve that the present Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) will be named after Late Prof. Shafique Ahmad Ansari, the then Hony Director, IQAC for his outstanding contribution to the cell. He died due to Covid-19 during the second wave of the pandemic.
The EC resolved to adopt the qualifications for appointment and promotions of teachers in Jamia Schools on the pattern of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). The EC also resolved to adopt the revised minimum wages rates for different categories of staff in the university.
The EC has also approved the appointment of Dr Nazim Husain Al-Jafri as Professor in the Department of History & Culture of the university, said the university in a statement issued to the media.
